Jones is a 5-foot-6, 140 pound prospect. The young right-handed hitting catcher had an exit velocity of 70 mph off the tee. He hits out of a narrow, square stance, with the hands set off the back shoulder. The load is triggered by a toe-tap, with the weight moving to the back leg. The hands get into a strong launch position, before heading into the hitting zone. The bat-path is flat, to and through contact. The extension stays on plane well through contact.
Defensively, Jones showed some projectable velocity for a young catcher at 65 mph from behind the plate. The initial stance is balanced and square, with the glove relaxed in the center of the chest. The feet transition well to the throwing position, creating a good line to the target. The hips and shoulders stay over the feet, allowing for a strong throwing position. The glove to hand transfer is good and the ball gets above the back shoulder. The arm is quick and he finishes over the front leg in line with the target.
Jones has a nice skill-set for a young prospect. The athleticism and arm talent show up behind the plate and the swing is simple. He should be a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
