Jack Farrell: C, (2023) Belmont Hill, MA. is a 5-foot-9, 160-pound catching prospect. At the plate, the right-handed hitter showed good hands, resulting in a max exit velocity of 84 MPH. Farrell starts in a balanced, wide stance with relaxed hands. A controlled load transitions the weight over the back leg before using a short stride to trigger his swing. The bat is quick. Taking a flat, simple path through the hitting zone with good extension on his finish. Behind the plate, he set up in a good position. The feet are square, the glove sits in the middle of the chest with the head up. As he transitioned to throwing, the feet move well, the hips get in line with second base, allowing the hips, shoulders and feet to be stacked. The arm works out of a higher ¾ slot, finishing over his front leg. As a result, his best throws were clocked at 70 MPH.
Farrell is an athletic 5-foot-9, 160 pound right-handed hitting catching prospect. He hits out of a wide stance, with the hands set off his back shoulder. The load is short, allowing him to get into a strong position to hit. The swing plane is direct and flat, producing a lot of hard line drives during the batting practice. His max exit velocity was 83 MPH for this event.
Behind the plate, Farrell showed athleticism. The initial set up is balanced, with the glove in a good position. As he transitions to throw, the feet are light and quick getting him into an athletic position to throw. The hips and shoulders remain over the feet, with some flex in the knees. The ball exchange is clean, allowing the arm to work. He showed a velocity of 70 MPH on his throws and finished nicely over his front leg.
Farrell is a good looking young catching prospect. The swing is simple and produced a lot of line drives. The catching skills are fundamental and athletic. He’s a guy to keep an eye on moving forward.
