Matthew Childs: C/OF, (2023) Medway, MA. 6-foot, 194-pound athletic mature build. Above average during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 89 mph. (66.39 mph bat speed average). (19.53 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a toe tap stride. Has above average quick bat speed, flat loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found lots of barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Behind the plate, throw downs to second maxed at 74 mph; showed a clean exchange, developing aggressive feet, and soft hands. recorded pop times of 2.06-2.09. Clean setup with some flexibility. Using a loose arm action, showed consistent accuracy to the base from a high ¾ slot. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.78.  (Max spin ; Avg ).

Hit: (RHH) Above average. Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then uses a toe tap stride. Above average quick bat speed. Good extension on his finish, flat loose swing. Gap to gap approach. 

Power: 89 mph exit velocity, average 79.21 mph. 66.39 mph bat speed average. 19.53 mph hand speed average.

Defense: (C) 2.06-2.09 pop times. Soft hands, developing aggressive footwork, clean exchange. Projectable. Clean setup with some flexibility. 

Arm: 74 mph catcher velocity. Loose arm action, high ¾ slot, consistent accuracy. 

Speed: 6.78 (60-yard).



5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. He ran a 6.85 sixty at the event. The movements behind the dish are athletic and he shows an improving skill set. He threw 67 mph down to second base with a pop time of 2.13. The receiving needs to continue to soften and working on securing the catch is imperative. The bat has an exit velocity of 85 mph. The setup is close together with the feet and the front foot gains ground to the baseball as the swing is produced. The hands work free and produce an uphill path through contact with the baseball. He displayed a 1-handed release after contact with the baseball.
