6-foot-2, 210 pounds, well-proportioned, athletic frame. The strength is already starting to show up in the upper and lower halves. The broad shoulders and back are capable of holding more without sacrificing his athleticism. On defense, Rivera works with soft hands that work fluidly on the forehand and backhand. Needs to refine his footwork and actions to stick at third, but the size makes first base an option if he does have to move. The arm works from a ¾ slot and he showed comfort working from different angles. The arm was clocked up to 78 MPH across the diamond. Shows carry when not rushing, allowing him to get the body into the throw. A left-handed hitter, Rivera showed developing power during BP rounds. He’s open-to-even in the box. The hands start slightly below the shoulders, working loosely through the zone. Rivera employs a leg kick, is balanced throughout the swing, with strong hip rotation. There is some loft in the swing path along with a pull-side approach. Consistent gap power now could take another step forward. His tee exit velocity was measured at 84 MPH. Off the mound, this right-hander had a fastball clocked at 75 MPH, worked it to both sides of the plate. The delivery is slower paced, gets to a good gather, gets weight on the backside, works down the mound smoothly. The arm works out of a natural ¾ slot. Showed to have good feel for the changeup at 68-72 MPH, with breaking ball having more slurve break to it, clocked at 67 MPH, thrown for strikes. Times to the plate were at 1.25, worked quickly between pitches. Future will be as a position player moving forward. An intriguing 2019 prospect from Rhode Island that could take a big step forward.
