5-foot-5, 125 pounds, wiry, quick twitchy prospect, average proportions. Still in the nascent stages of physical development, strength gains will help propel the profile for the next level. A versatile defensive player, Santiago worked out as both an outfielder and an infielder, where he showed the athleticism to slot in all over the field. In the infield, the glove works well, fundamentally sound. Throws from a high ¾ slot, short, clean arm action. Throws were measured at 67 MPH across the diamond and at 70 MPH on outfield throws with some carry to it. As a hitter, Santiago stands even in the box. There’s a minor crouch and small step into the swing. Simple and balanced swing, compact. The bat path is level with good bat-to-ball skills. All fields approach with consistent line drives during batting practice rounds. Little to no power in the present. With added strength and growth, could see immediate impact on the field with his hit tool. His tee exit velocity was clocked at 73 MPH. Santiago is someone to follow in the 2021 class. Continuing to refine skills all over the diamond will boost his stock. There are present skills and room for growth as he matures.
