5-foot-11, 155 pounds, average athletic build, sloped shoulders, with wide back to add strength, lean and projectable. A two-way prospect, Vaughn ran a 7.81 sixty yard dash. As a right-handed hitter, works from a wide, closed stance with his hands setting around shoulder height away from the body. Minor pre-pitch waggle, Vaughn steps into the pitch with a slight hitch as the hands drop as he begins the swing. Can get weight too far forward during the swing sapping some bat speed as the arms fall behind the rest of his body. The bat path is level, tailored toward line drive contact to all fields. His tee exit velocity was measured at 83 MPH, a nine MPH hike since his last PBR workout. As an outfield prospect, Vaughn gets his body into the throw with a ¾ to high ¾ release point. Throws were clocked up to 74 MPH, a slight gain since last year. Long, clean arm swing on the backside. Best outfield position is in a corner and will need to continue making gains with the arm for right field at the next level. Also a right-handed pitcher, Vaughn works as a true sidearm guy, giving him some allure as a reliever. Gets average extension on the stride and showed an ability to continually hit the sidearm slot and repeat his mechanics. He starts tall as he begins the delivery before arching over to hit his release point. Has a high leg kick, consistent with landing at front foot strike, and hides the ball well as he moves into attack position adding deception. Works a three pitch mix, going fastball, slider, changeup. The fastball was clocked at 65 MPH, with good sink to the arm side, starts in the zone and then ends being a swing and miss. The slider is more frisbee like, thrown for strikes with good feel for it, clocked at 58 MPH. Interesting two way player, has strength at the plate, with the ability to get outs out of the bullpen.
5-foot-10, 147 pounds, squared shoulders, long legs, thin but athletic. Frame could easily add upper body strength without sacrificing athleticism. Throws from a ¾ slot in the outfield. Shows solid footwork and glove defensively. His 4.67 home-first make his best outfield position one of the corners. Arm was clocked at 72 mph from the outfield. At the plate, his stance is even with the feet setting a little more than shoulder width apart. His hands begin up by the shoulder before dropping to the letters. Short, level swing through the zone. Moderate leg kick into the swing. Showed the ability to hit line drives during batting practice, mostly middle-pull oriented in approach. On the mound, Vaughn works from a low ¾ to pure sidearm slot. The fastball was clocked between 65-69 mph with some sink. His breaking ball is still a work in progress, coming in between 58-62 mph. His best breaking balls in game showed promising slider shape with good tilt down and away to right handed batters. The changeup came in at 62 mph and needs further refinement. Overall, Vaughn is an interesting two-way prospect right now but may be best served moving to the mound full time. With a long, lanky frame capable of adding strength, a velocity spike may be in his near-term future. Honing his secondary stuff and command will only make him and his deceptive delivery harder to square up.
