Scouting Report
9-21-18
Uncommitted. Sturdily built at 5-foot-11, 185-pounds with strong wrists and forearms, Boyd has a simple approach at the plate with his hands separating straight back in conjunction with a short stride before allowing his quick hands to whip the barrel through the zone on a flat plane. I was impressed with his ability to work gap to gap from both sides of the plate at the Future Games, and there is likely much more power on the way. Behind the dish, he presents a wide target with loose hips to go along with solid hands. His footwork is controlled and clean on throws to second base with accurate throws. Overall, Boyd’s knack for finding the barrel as a switch-hitting catcher will likely have plenty of schools courting him.

5-foot-11, 185 pounds. Switch hitting 3B/C. Really came away impressed with body at the event. Quiet swing that repeats from both sides. Gap to gap power which produced 90 mph exit velocity from both sides as well. Athletic strong frame. Strongest arm at 3B at 80 mph. Pop time ranged from 2.06-2.10. Clean footwork with quick exchange and short arm action. No wasted movement. Throws have nice carry on them. Soft hands receiving. Good reactions. Also a hockey player. Player to follow in 2021 class.
