PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose Kirkwood CC?
HARPENAU: I chose Kirkwood because I felt like the coaching staff there is amazing and they have an atmosphere there that I felt like I wanted to be a part of.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
HARPENAU: Iowa Central, Iowa Western, DMACC, Parkland, Western Illinois, NDSU, SDSU

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
HARPENAU: The coaching staff was able to see me pitch at the State Tournament in my sophomore year. They contacted me in the offseason and were able to come to my first start of this year. From there Coach Canepeal and I stayed in touch and I was able to visit this August after the season and meet and talk to Coach Rima and some of the other staff.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
HARPENAU: Yes, I was very relieved to get the decision over with and not have to worry about it anymore.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
HARPENAU: I would say there were multiple things that contributed to my decision. I really enjoyed the coaching staff on my visit and the program they have built over the years and I felt like it was a place I could go and succeed at.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
HARPENAU: The people that have helped me the most today are my dad and my brother. They have both spent a lot of time to help me succeed and have given a lot of advice that is very valuable to the player I have become.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
HARPENAU: I didn't really know what to expect in the recruiting process. The coaches made it enjoyable to learn and get to know about them and their college but that made it very difficult and stressful to make a decision.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
HARPENAU: They plan on having me come in and continue to improve in my development as a pitcher and help the team in any way that I can.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
HARPENAU: My most memorable moment is each time that I was able to pitch at Principle Park.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
HARPENAU: There are a few guys that stand out. Hunter Dekkers from West Sioux, Reed Stallman from Alburnett, and Jake Hilmer from North Linn.
