PBR IA COMMITMENT SPOTLIGHT

PBR: Why did you choose the school you did?
MARTINEZ: Because of the role I will play as soon as I hit campus. Knowing how good of a coaching staff I have and the other talented teammates as well. The campus is nice and also not too far away from home. I believe there’s a lot of special things in the future for Iowa Central!

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
MARTINEZ: Kirkwood and Iowa Western.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with him?
MARTINEZ: Many PBR’s and other baseball games. Coach Stein shot me a text and from there I could instantly tell how much he wanted me to join the program.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
MARTINEZ: Yes. Knowing where I’m going to school to focus on my future in Baseball and my academics makes me sleep a lot better at night.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
MARTINEZ: I instantly could see how committed the coaches were to me and my potential. As well as the fact I can improve my pitching and outfield.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
MARTINEZ: Most importantly my family and everything they have done for me. Jason Wentworth (USSSA), David Dirkx (Waukee Head Coach), Evan Romanchuk (Iowa Sticks), along with my Dad are the coaches that helped along the way.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
MARTINEZ: Obviously with committing in early November I had a longer process but I definitely enjoyed that part of it. I kept grinding it all the way and I’m pleased with where my results are getting me so far. Meeting new players and coaches through the process and creating those relationships was the best part.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
MARTINEZ: They said they foresee me coming in as a main outfielder but more importantly getting me to the point I’m pitching and play outfield on a day in day out basis.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
MARTINEZ: #1- Way back in the day winning state back with my all-star little league team. Walnut Creek! #2- Winning 14 yr. old USSSA Iowa Global with the Iowa Oaks.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
MARTINEZ: Dylan Crews out of Florida.
