Q and A with 2015 Iowa Commit: Luke Farley [Columbus Catholic HS]

Q AND A WITH 2015 IOWA COMMIT: LUKE FARLEY [COLUMBUS Catholic HS]

Luke Farley, OF/1B, Columbus Catholic HS

PBR:  Why did you choose University of Iowa?

Farley:  The #1 reason was the great coaches.  I think they have started to turn things around and I’m looking forward to being a part of it.  I’m excited about working with Coach Heller.  He’s a great hitting coach and teacher of the game.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Farley:  I really didn’t consider anyone else.  Iowa came in early and I liked everything about it.  I thought about going to some other school’s camps but I found the right place for me.  I knew some of the players already in the program and just felt it would be a great opportunity.

PBR:  How does it feel to be a Hawkeye?

Farley:  Feels good.  Iowa City is going to be a great place for four years.  I want to win a lot of games, enjoy myself and have fun being a student/athlete, and I truly believe we will have a chance to play at the College World Series.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way; what are your individual/ team goals?

Farley:  Having made my commitment I feel like a ton of pressure has been taken off.  I can enjoy playing and continue to work to be ready physically and mechanically once I enter college.  Team-wise I really want to go to State and have a chance to win a title.

PBR:  How does it feel to know you will be a Division 1 player?

Farley:  A relief.  I don’t have to scramble.  I can enjoy playing and improving without distractions of finding a school or impressing someone in the stands.

PBR:  What person has had the greatest impact on your baseball career?

Farley:  My dad.  He’s always there to throw BP and come to my games.  He’s always been there for me.  Provided me opportunities to experience different things around baseball.

PBR:  Who is the best pitcher you have faced?

Farley:  Mitch Keller.  He has a good fastball but also a hammer curveball.  If you are going to hit him you have to just sit on one pitch and hopefully get it in that count.

PBR:  Who is one of the better position players you have played against?

Farley:  Joey Polak- 2016 from Illinois- is one guy who stands out.  Super aggressive hitter with huge power.  He’s one guy that if you don’t pitch him right- you will be in trouble real quick.

PBR:  Any last thoughts?

Farley:  I really appreciate everything my high school coach Don Spore has done.  He emphasizes the little things.  If we can accomplish those we will be successful in the end.  He’s done a great job of keeping our team focused and together.  He’s a great coach.
