Korey Kuhlmann, LHP, Maple Valley Anthon Oto, Class of 2015
PBR: Why did you choose Iowa Western CC in Council Bluffs?
KUHLMANN: I chose Iowa Western because of the history of the program. Winning the World Series three out of the last five years and the way they can develop players to send them to the next level. I feel like they can help me achieve my goal to play Division I baseball.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
KUHLMANN: Iowa Central and NIACC were the other two schools I was considering.
PBR: Where did they first see you? How did your relationship develop with the coaching staff?
KUHLMANN: They first saw me when we were playing in districts at Carroll. They also saw me at a PBR showcase in Omaha. My relationship with them developed by talking to them at camps and visiting with them on the phone.
PBR: What role do you expect to play your first year on campus?
KUHLMANN: I hope to be in the starting pitching rotation and to give the team quality starts.
PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?
KUHLMANN: Both parents and coaches have had the biggest impact on me. They've all helped me with my game growing up and during high school.
PBR: What have you worked on/improved since last year?
KUHLMANN: The thing I have improved on is my secondary pitches. I've worked a lot on throwing more curveballs and change-ups and I feel like I can command those pitches in any type of count.
PBR: Who is the toughest player that you have faced in Iowa?
KUHLMANN: Cole Jackson from North Polk would be the toughest player that I have faced. He is a hard throwing right-hander and was a great pitcher that mixed up his pitches well with a good curve and fastball.
PBR: What are your thoughts on the recruiting process? Any advice for future players in your position.
KUHLMANN: The recruiting process is very time consuming. It is nice to hear other coaches perspectives and comments. My advice is to keep working hard during the season as well as the offseason, and work on improving any weaknesses.
