Updated Predictions 5/19/2016***
Day Four: Thursday May 19th
Creighton Prep (26-5) vs. Millard South (27-9) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Creighton Prep
Millard West (26-5) vs. Lincoln Southwest (24-8) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Lincoln Southwest
Day Three: Wednesday May 18th.
Creighton Prep (25-5) vs. Millard West (27-4) at Haymarket Park
PBR Prediction: Millard West
Why: This is the first time this year the two top programs in the state have met. Creighton Prep showed some fight in a come from behind victory over a streaking Lincoln Southwest on day two and Millard West took advantage of a costly error against Lincoln Southeast. We are picking Millard West to take this game due to the extra pitching Creighton Prep had to use on day two of the tournament.
Lincoln Southwest (23-8) vs. Grand Island (22-6) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Lincoln Southwest
Why: After blowing a big lead against Creighton Prep on Tuesday night. Lincoln Southwest should be motivated against Grand Island who won in extra innings against Lincoln Northeast. Grand Island should keep it close as they more than likely will hand the ball to one of the state's top 2018 arms in Shay Schanaman.
Millard South (26-9) vs. Lincoln Southeast (17-8) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Millard South
Why: This will be an intriguing match-up because it will more than likely be Nebraska recruit Connor Curry of Lincoln Southeast vs. Kearney recruit Calvin Rudolf or Sioux Fall's recruit Jake Boryca on the mound for the Patriots. A good amount of the Patriot line-up has played in big games before and they should be to able to handle a tough crowd if the Lincoln Southeast students show up, like they did, Saturday night vs. Grand Island.
Day Two: Tuesday May 17th.
Millard West (26-4) vs. Lincoln Southeast (16-7) at Haymarket Park
PBR Prediction: Millard West
Why: The Wildcats opened with a big 11-1 win in the opener vs Lincoln Northeast, while Lincoln Southeast sneaked by Grand Island who had 5 errors on the night. If the Wildcats bats continue to stay hot they should advance to Tuesday nights winners bracket game.
Creighton Prep (24-4) vs. Lincoln Southwest (23-7) at Haymarket Park
PBR Prediction: Creighton Prep
Why: Lincoln Southwest deserves a lot of credit for the 10 game winning streak they have put together but I think they will struggle against a much tougher senior led line-up of Prep.
Grand Island (21-6) vs. Lincoln Northeast (18-10) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Grand Island
Why: The Islander's kicked the ball around and costly errors in their first game against Lincoln Southeast. If they come out and play a clean game they should live to see another day of the 2016 state tournament.
Millard South (25-9) vs. Papillion South (20-11) at Sherman Field
PBR Prediction: Millard South
Why: The Patriots should use this as a bounce back game after running into a streaking Lincoln Southwest in the first round on Saturday. The game should be a low scoring grinder against the Titans.
Day 1: May 14th, 2016
Millard West (25-4) vs. Lincoln Northeast (18-9)
PBR Prediction: Millard West
Why: With a team batting average of .333 and ERA of 2.06 the #1 overall seeded Wildcats should get off to a hot start towards as they try to secure their first state championship.
PBR Preferred Pitching Match Up:
Brandon McClintock vs. Wyatt Divis
Three Prospects to Watch:
Cole Stobbe
Colby Gomes
Wyatt Divis
Lincoln Southeast (15-7) vs. Grand Island (21-5)
PBR Prediction: Grand Island
Why: Grand Island will be hungry for a win after dropping their district finals to Papillion South. The Islander's have some of the top arms and bats in the state.
PBR Preferred Pitching Match Up:
Connor Curry vs. Trey Kissack
Three Prospects to Watch:
Connor Curry
Trey Kissack
Parker Upton
Lincoln Southwest (22-7) vs. Millard South (25-8)
PBR Prediction: Lincoln Southwest
Why: Third time is a charm. The SilverHawks are winners of eight straight coming into the state tournament and are looking for revenge after losses by the score of 0-10 and 0-11 at the hands of the Patriots earlier this season.
PBR Preferred Pitching Match Up:
Jonah Ulane vs. Dylan Umbenhower
Three Prospects to Watch:
Logan Foster
Jonah Ulane
Max McGuire
Creighton Prep (23-4) vs. Papillion South (20-10)
PBR Prediction: Creighton Prep
Why: This 2016 Creighton Prep roster may be the best that it has been since their state championship in 2012. They have multiple bats in the lineup that can cause damage at anytime and more pitching than anyone else in the state.
PBR Preferred Pitching Match Up:
Zac Zagozda vs. Quinton VanAckeron
Three Prospects to Watch:
Brandon Bena
Brett Vosik
Zac Zagozda
