PBR: Why did you choose Lipscomb?
Lipscomb has been a School I’ve had my eye on since last summer, and they stand out to me for a lot of reasons. Their baseball program has produced some draft picks in the past few years, many of which are pitchers, and I feel they can prepare me for the next level. They also hold many of my same beliefs as a school. On top of all of it, Nashville is a great city with lots of things to do.
PBR: What other schools were you considering?
I had an offer from Yale that put them high on the list, as well as Northern Alabama and New Mexico. When making a decision I wanted to go where I knew was a good fit, and where I felt God was calling me.
PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
They first saw me at one of their camps last September, and again this summer in Atlanta in July. They saw my development and all the work I had done and they reached out in July offering me. They were very patient with my family and I in the decision making process and that was another point where they stood out.
PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
There wasn’t any one single factor that caused me to choose one school over another. It was really a feel for the school and how I’d fit into the program and where God was calling me.
PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
My parents have done so much for me all along the way, especially this summer all the sacrifices they’ve made to get me to this point. They truly want what’s best for me and it’s been incredible getting to see that throughout my entire life. As far as coaches, I just want to name them all! But one person who’s pushed me to be my best the whole way is Grant Detlefsen. He’s always competed with me for being the #1 guy on the team since we were 9, and it’s been a fun ride!
PBR: You played for the Nebraska Sluggers this past summer, what was that experience like?
The Sluggers and coach Kenny made it such a fun summer. It was great playing with a group of guys who wanted to get to the next level. The exposure and experience you get with that is something you’re not going to find anywhere else. It was a great experience!
PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
Probably getting my first start as a freshman at LSE. It was against Norris and I was nervous, but also fired up about it. It was the first time where i was able to get out of my box and get into a groove as a high school player.
PBR: Who is the best player you have competed against?
The best player I’ve pitched against is easily Logan Foster. I was a Freshman pitching against LSW in the HAC championship and he was a senior. He was the first batter of the game and I was so nervous knowing he was going to Texas A&M. I struck him out the first time around, but he doubled off me the next time up. That’s baseball, but it’s been all a fun experience.
