North Carolina bound RHP J.T. Rogoszewski stole the show in a match-up of two Class AAA teams in the PBR Class AAA Elite Eight team rankings on Thursday. Hurricane (No. 3) traveled to South Charleston (No. 6) and came away with a 3-0 win to improve to 17-4 on the season. South Charleston fell to 17-5 with the loss.
Rogoszewski (right) was in command from start to finish. The 6-foot-3, 180-pound righty allowed just three hits while striking out 10 in the complete game effort. Rogoszewski escaped a first and third, no out jam in the second inning by striking out the next three hitters. He also worked his way out of a bases loaded, two-out situation in the 5th inning by inducing a comebacker to the mound to keep the shutout intact.
Shortstop Trey Dawson, an LSU recruit, jump started the Hurricane offense with a lead-off triple to start the 3rd inning. Dawson scored the game's first run and what turned out to be the game winner on a passed ball. The senior finished the night 2-for-4 with a run scored and drove in the game's second run with a 6th inning single. Catcher Tate Brock, a West Virginia recruit, also had a strong game at the plate going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Hurricane returns to action when they take on Class AAA No. 7 George Washington at Appalachian Park tomorrow. South Charleston travels to Riverside tonight to take on the defending Class AAA state runners-up.
