Listed at 5-foot-10, 170 pounds, Shields looked good on the mound showcasing a whippy arm action that allowed him to get out front and get some zip on his fastball. He topped out at 75 mph and showed some feel for a breaking ball. At the plate shields showed a compact swing designed to make consistent contact. He slapped the ball to all fields relying on his hands to do the heavy lifting. On the infield he showed good footwork and fielded the ball well out front. Projects to be better on the mound.

10/29/17 - Listed at 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, Shields has a good feel for pitching. With a fastball touching 74 mph, he features arm-side run. Good separation between velocities on all 3 pitches. Has a strong front leg. Promising young arm. At the plate, Shields recorded an exit velocity of 78 mph. Has the ability to get the bat head out and pull the ball.
