2025 Calgary Future Games Trials
One of the more exciting players in Alberta's 2028 class, Wolbeck proved why at Future Games Trials. Standing 6-foot-3, 185-pounds, the Black Gold 47s product has a composed swing from the left side that stands out. A strong feel for hitting, he's an easy mover at his age with an exit velocity that reached a peak of 91.4 mph and a carry distance of 304 feet. It looks right from his setup to his finish. Defensively he also moves well & while his feet are a touch slow, that's expected for his age. His hands work and he's got the current arm strength to stay on the left side, reaching 79 mph. On the mound he's got clean, repeatable actions, using a three-pitch mix lead by a fastball ranging 79-81 while mixing in a curveball and changeup. It's always a good look seeing Wolbeck, who isn't a long time away from swinging a big bat.
Despite being one of the youngest players at the Black Gold 47s Scout Day, Wolbeck was a standout on the mound. The 2028 grad stands at 6-foot-1, 168-pounds and has plenty of room to add strength and mature physically. The delivery is low effort, while also utilizing a quick arm. The fastball got up to 78 mph, sitting mostly in the 74-76 mph range. He offers a sinker at 73 mph, as well as a splitter and a curveball. Wolbeck has been one of the more impressive 2028s we’ve seen so far, and will be one to follow in the years ahead.
