6-26-2018: Physical athlete with a lean, muscular frame. Light on his feet but with powerful actions. Flashed a quick first step at shortstop and maintained good balance and body control as he moved in the infield. Arm action is clean and effortless. The arm has plenty of strength and he showed the ability to make throws from various angles/release points. Only had the chance to see him at SS but he could make an easy transition to 2B. His defensive tools would certainly play up to a higher level there. Hits with a very simple and compact set-up at the plate. Stays tall with a narrow stance and has his front foot slightly open to the pitcher. There’s a little hesitation or pause to his actions in the box when his front foot lands. It’s an unorthodox move but McDearmon is strong enough to make it work for him. Stays in his legs very well and gives himself the chance to make adjustments with his swing. There’s noticeable strength in his hands/forearms. He does a great job of staying inside the ball and consistently generates loud, hard contact. Mature approach at the plate. Through his first 61 AB’s he has 10 BB and 9 K. High motor player. First one on and off the field. Stays focused during BP and in-between innings. Firmly established himself as one of the best all-around players in the league. (Dan Jurik)
