Bazzana’s first three at-bats for the weekend didn’t go too well with three strikeouts as he faced Hagen Smith and a top-of-the-scale slider. However, on Sunday, he became just the fifth college player in the past five years to top an EV of 108 or better on four batted balls in the same game. He finished the three-game set 5-for-12 with a double and a home run. The left-handed hitter now has eight extra-base hits in 38 plate appearances this season. The ball consistently jumps off his barrel with explosive bat speed and elite barrel control. Bazzana projects as a 70-grade hitter (.300-.320 batting average) with plus power production at the Major League level. Defensively, the Australian native has sure hands with average range and also has the speed (70-grade runner) and enough arm strength to transition to centerfield in the future. As the top pure hitter in the 2024 college draft class he’s a likely top three overall pick this summer.

Cape CodBazzana can be described (in a complimentary way of course) as a freak. His strength/speed/explosiveness is rivaled only by J.J. Wetherholt and Dakota Jordan (Mississippi State) among college players eligible for the 2024 draft. The Australian native is a 70-grade runner who also produces elite-level exit velocities at the plate with a flat and long through the hitting zone swing. The left handed hitter improved his average 74 points over his last ten regular season games to earn the Cape batting title with a .375 season average. And Bazzana didn’t do it by spraying Texas leaguers around the outfield. He slugged it, highlighted by a 6-for-7 game on July 28 with two home runs and two doubles. He’s also on the short list of five total college players in the past five years who have a chase rate less than 15%, zone whiff rate less than 10% and a 90th percentile exit velocity greater than 105 mph. Defensively, he showed fair hands and above average range at the keystone which is most likely to be his long term position. Bazzana is a low risk, near big league ready bat who has also received off the chart marks for his makeup and team leadership skills.
