Cape Cod: A two-year stalwart in the Grand Canyon weekend rotation, Avitia has established a reputation as a strike-throwing machine, with 192 strikeouts against 39 walks in 167 career innings over his first two college campaigns. His walk rate was higher this summer for Orleans (24-14 K-BB in 27.2 IP), but he still posted a 1.62 ERA over six starts. Everything Avitia throws moves — he thrives off mixing his lively 89-92 mph sinker with a quality slider and changeup, all of which have plenty of action. He has high-end command, mound presence and poise, and he should vie for All-America honors as a junior next spring, with a chance to be a top-10-rounds draft pick.
