Cape Cod- McLaughlin retired all six batters he faced in our look, two of them via strikeouts with his sharp three-quarters slurve at 76-78 mph. He showed very good feel for the pitch, which featured good bite and solid spin rates in the 2400-2520 rpm range. The 5-foot-11, 180-pound righty has a slingy three-quarters arm action with a bit of uptempo, crossfire action that lends deception, and he filled up the zone at 89-92 mph with his heater (spin rates at 2200-2300 rpm). He also showed a useful changeup in other outings. A smaller-framed righty with a quick arm and outstanding mound presence, McLaughlin has been a rock in the BYU bullpen for three years, posting a 2.04 ERA and six saves in 2021.
