at Fresno Easter Classic - Uncommitted; Long rangy body type; Pitched in previous game so he DH’d in this viewing and he did not disappoint smacking a ball deep off the left-center field wall that nearly missed getting out. He collected a couple other hits in the game showing a consistent approach that relies on using quick hands through the zone before utilizing the present strength in the body.
9/28/18 - Bell showed a quality three-pitch mix in his two innings of work and projection in the body and arm. The righty has a lean upper half build with strength in his long legs and the room to add strength to his frame as he matures. He utilizes a high front knee with a simple step-and-turn delivery while dropping his hands to the waist and allowing his long action to reach to a high-3/4 release. There was a little tendency to spin off his front leg, but it didn't impact his command of the lower half of the zone during the outing. The FB was 82-83 T85 MPH touching higher velocity as he got into the second inning. The pitch had angle down through the zone and induced weak groundballs. The CB was 70-73 MPH showing short depth with flashes of tight 12-to-5 actions and feel for the pitch going back-to-back with it. Late in the second inning he brought out a CHG (78 MPH) that flashed above-average bottom with good feel for the pitch through the zone. The project-ability of the body and more velocity with the current command showed Bell to be a follow for the spring season.
PBR Underclass Games - 6-foot-3, 180-pounds, long and lanky, good frame to continue to add size and strength, ran pretty well given his size which bodes well for his chance to become more powerful. Offensively he showed well, with bat speed and an easy move through the ball that resulted in hard contact. Tall set-up, fairly short stride and good balance. A bit rotational in the BP round but did repeatedly find the barrel. One of top performers in the game action, with two hard hit balls in both at-bats, singled off an 84 mph fastball and also singled up the middle vs another 80+ fastball. Defensively he displayed an above average arm that has a chance to become a plus arm. Footwork was a bit choppy with a few too many steps as he set up to the ball but clearly working at developing proper footwork. If that becomes more natural for him then he’s got tools to handle 3rd base. On the mound has an overhand slot, on-line stride, arm works pretty easily while producing low-80s velocity. Stride leg stiffens up a bit as he gets toward extension, which caused the fastball to be up a bit too much as he was falling off line toward 1st base. Curveball was best pitch, as he displayed good feel of it and some late action. Presently a bit further along as a position player prospect but given his size and arm strength, he has a chance to develop as a pitcher too.
