St. Mary's commit; Leffle is a gifted athlete with a lean athletic body type (5-foot-11, 165-pounds) and good body control. Didn't get to see him at his primary position of catcher but saw good feet and range as a shortstop. Didn't really get to see the full arm strength on display as the game didn't give him much of an opportunity to show what he has. He did show the aforementioned range to both his left and right and moves around with light athletic feet. Offensively he starts with a slightly open stance and has hands that work very easily. The bat speed is good and the swing is smooth with some whippy life. Made good barrel contact each at-bat and looks like a player who doesn't try to do too much with. Swing reminded me of Mark Kotsay. Ran around 4.30 down line so he's near average (in terms of 20/80) and a bit better underway. Heads up baserunner with eyes on opportunities to take an extra base if the defense give him that chance.
Summer underclass tourney - St. Mary's commit. Large frame with athletic build; twitchy player with long/lean, present muscle throughout body. Balanced stance with even high hands from left side; quick compact stroke with tight turns on ball. Gap power now (80 exit velocity) with barrel control of line drive stroke; looks like he could add more power as he starts to fill out and quickness of bat. Regularly barreled balls during week; multiple games with multiple extra base hits. Defensively utilizes his elite athleticism to be able to make play at multiple spots; showed MIF actions on top ball and ability to get rid of it quickly while also showing off quickness from behind the plate (1.84/1.91 Pop). Above average arm currently with flashes of more; was 80 MPH across infield during testing and then was 83-85 on mound in final day. Athleticism shows up everywhere as well; ran a 6.95-60yd dash and I had him regularly 4.5 on the turn during multiple 3B’s in game. Ability to turn up speed when needed. /// Handles the glove well up the middle, caught a couple innings, and swings the bat with authority. Made an outstanding play on a high hopper at SS to throw out a runner. Very balanced quiet approach at the plate. He was 2-3 with two triples. Has outstanding speed. Had him at 4.5 On the turn for his second triple. He threw on the mound and sat 82-83 and touched 85. Good arm side run on FB. CB at 72 with sharp 12-6 break.
