12/12/15 Second PBR event for Gurnack, is a right-handed hitting catcher, can play in the infield as well. At the plate, the setup is balanced and is slightly open. Hands are very quiet, path to the ball is level through the zone, barrel stays in the zone a long time and stays through the ball. Showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields. The tee exit velocity was 76 mph. Behind the dish, the setup is wide, balanced, sits on the flats of his feet. The footwork and transfer are quick, right foot replaces the left foot. The arm path is very short and quick, times to second were 2.06-2.18, the arm strength was registered at 72 mph down to second and 74 mph across the diamond from shortstop. At shortstop, the hands and feet worked well, the flow is good. This kid has a bright future, the body projects, will fill out. Needs strength and to continue to work on speed, the actions are loose.
7.28.15 As a right handed hitter the stance is even, uses a high leg kick for timing, the path to the ball was good, tee exit velocity was 75 and he swung the bat well in the game with two hits. Behind the dish he did a great job, times to second were 2.09-2.22, he receives well, but needs to get behind the ball a little better. Catch, transfer, release, hands and feet work well together. Arm strength was 71 down to second base. At shortstop, his hands and feet work really well, his feet need to be quicker. At 5-foot-11, 150 pounds he is long and athletic, but strength is a must. Definite kid to see next spring, I see him as a very good catching prospect at the next level.
