5-foot-4, 150-pound, small, strong athletic frame. The wrists, hands and legs are quick and fast. This left-handed hitting outfielder committed to Eastern Connecticut State after this event. At the plate, feet are even, shoulder width apart, hands held higher, lower half is under control, uses a clean pick up and put down with stride foot. The approach is more line drive from field to field, swing is level to up, finishing with a one-handed finish. The barrel stays in the zone a long time, hard solid contact in batting practice and in game play. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 73 mph and ran a 4.74 from home to first.  Defensively, clean, quick routes to the baseball. The transfer is accurate, steps through hard and gains ground with footwork. The arm action is short on the back side, arm works out of a ¾ slot, clocked at 84 mph, baseball comes out of his hand well. Throws are on a line and down hill.

Home-First: 4.74

5-foot-3, 150 small, but thick, more strength than expected. Not a great runner which makes his best outfield position on a corner. Strong, quick arm, keeps the ball downhill, registered at 85 mph during outfield drills. Gets body into the throw. Solid footwork with quick transition from fielding into throws. At the plate, his feet begin shoulder width apart and he is upright in the box. Small step into the swing but the bat can lag behind the rest of his body. There is loft in the swing along with a pull oriented approach. When on time, there is plus pop in the bat, as he is able to drive balls into the gaps. Exit velocity measured at 77 mph off a tee. Made good contact during gameplay with a single into left field and a flyout to deep center. With more physical development and a refined approach, Watanabe could begin taking advantage of his pop in a big way. Overall, there are some interesting tools in the profile worth monitoring this upcoming season.
