7.17.18
6-foot, 150-pound, solid athletic frame, plenty of room to fill out, hands and wrists have above average strength to them. A right-handed hitting middle infielder, swing and hands work freely, with easy effort. The hands are held just above the shoulders, has good separation with the hands from the body, lower half is under control, uses a smooth controlled leg raise, gains ground with stride foot. On contact is balanced and is behind the baseball, swing is flat through the zone, gets through it, keeping the barrel in the zone. The approach is from field to field, swing creates left to it, finishes it off with a one-handed finish. The tee exit velocity was clocked at 82 mph and ran a 4.52 down the line. Defensively, showed good prep steps, keeps feet moving throughout, works from the ground up, with a clean transfer into his throwing arm. The arm action is clean on the backside, short and works out of a natural ¾ slot. The arm was clocked at 72 mph, good touch on all throws. The footwork was accurate around the bag, on the double play starts and feeds. Good looking prospect, can play on either side of the bag, may be better suited for second long term.

6-foot-0, 150 pounds, average athletic build and proportions, some slope in the shoulders, can add strength to both halves. Ran a 7.22 sixty yard dash during the event. A right-handed hitter, Darby’s feet set even in the box with the hands just above the shoulders. Showed off some present gap power during batting practice and tapping into it in games consistently would help elevate his game further. Minor rock step triggers the swing, rotates through the zone, extending through the point of contact. Showed tendency to drop back shoulder a bit during batting practice to create more loft and power. Generally a level-up bat path. Tee exit velocity was clocked at 83 MPH. Worked out as a shortstop defensively. Average athletic actions and foot speed. Moved well to his left. Clean arm swing, throws from a high ¾ slot, and his throws registered as high as 72 MPH. Profiles best at second base.
