Mid-upper 80's left-handed pitcher. Ability to throw 2 pitches for strikes. Projectable body. Will continue to grow and add strength. Committed to University of Missouri in November of junior year.
3/16/19: Aggressive and super competitive lefty with three average to better pitches thrown from a long, hooking arm path into a three-quarter slot. At 6-foot-0, 225 pounds with extra wide shoulders Sikkema is fully mature and will need to watch his fitness and diet. After missing his first start during opening weekend this season due to back spasms that turned into the flu, Sikkema threw 122 pitches during his 8-inning start on Saturday. He maintained the velocity and controlled an 89-94 mph fastball with above average life. Mixed in a 78-81 mph slurve which played above average due to his ability to repeat and locate the pitch. His third pitch was an average 80-82 mph sinking changeup thrown with good arm speed. He is known for a high-spin breaking ball (2300-2500 rpm in the Cape last summer) and low-spin changeup (1600-1900 rpm). Despite a cross body, twisting, off-balance landing, he fields his position well. Ranking above any of his tools is his greatest strength; confidence and competitiveness. He has no fear on the bump and refuses to get beat. Although he has limited remaining projection and how he does it is not the prettiest, what comes across the plate is worthy of mid-to-early consideration for Day Two. There just aren't too many lefties in the country with three at least average pitchers who have a career strikeout rate of nearly 10/9 IP. (Seifert)
8-5-2018: Aggressive, mature bodied 6’0/220 lefty with a deceptive, extreme crossfire delivery. Off-balance landing with a twisting finish to the third base side leaves him very vulnerable to comebackers and bunts up the first base line. His hooking arm swing to three-quarters release point with a well across body landing presents a tough look to left-handed hitters. Worked quick and pitched off his breaking ball while mixing in a 85-90 mph fastball (2200 spin rate) with an occasional 77-81 mph sinking changeup (1600-1900). Fastball showed good sink when down and some riding life when elevated. Despite his landing, he was able to get his fastball to his glove side, keeping right-handed batters off the dish. A 75-78 mph slurve with a high spin rate (2300-2500) is his go-to pitch. Throws early and often. Plays above average with his ability repeat and locate. Effective against both left and right-handed hitters Sikkema doesn’t have overwhelming stuff or look the “prettiest” delivering the ball to the plate, but he has the stuff to get outs and the ability to exploit hitters’ weaknesses. Was named to the Cape Cod League All-Star Game this summer where he worked a perfect, three-up, three-down fourth inning for the West squad. (Seifert)
