2/16/14 - 5-foot-10, 210-pound prospect with physical frame and strong legs, shows quick feet behind the plate, event best 77 mph arm from the crouch, quick transfer and release, event best pop times of 1.86-1.95, will need to refine footwork moving forward as he drifts hard into the right-handed batters box, also shows good arm strength at third base at 84 mph and from the outfield at 87 mph. At the plate, he explodes with lower half to generate plus bat speed through the zone, uphill path creates lift, shows good pull-side power and has displayed the ability to hit to all fields, ran 7.50 60 yard dash, tied PBR Kentucky record with 99 mph tee exit velocity.
Fall Prospect Program 2013 - The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Gumm is making the transition to being primarily a catcher and showed improved receiving and footwork behind the dish. He showed 76 mph arm strength from the crouch with pop times ranging from 1.90-2.02. He generates plenty of bat speed as evidenced by his 93 mph exit velocity off the tee. The left-handed hitter was one of the top hitters during the 5 week program, going 10-for-23 with 2 doubles, a triple, and 5 RBI’s. He showed the ability to make hard contact to all fields.
9/7/13 - The 5-foot-10, 195-pound, left-handed hitting Gumm squared up everything in sight at the plate smoking a double to deep right field, a single to left-center, and a rocket line-drive out to right. He registered 93 mph exit velocity off the tee. Behind the plate, Gumm showed improved receiving and footwork behind the plate with 76 mph arm strength and pop times of 1.90-2.02. He threw a runner out attempting to steal second base in game action.
6/11/13 - 5-foot-10, 190-pound, left-handed hitting prospect with strong lower half, showed better lateral movement in infield from previous event, has different arm action but strong/accurate arm across the infield at 84 mph, participated in catching portion of showcase, and showed good arm strength from the crouch at 79 mph with pop times ranging from 1.86 – 2.00, footwork is raw and needs work, shows better arm action from the outfield with a strong arm at 88 mph with carry. At the plate, hits from an athletic setup, short stride, explosive lower half torque creates explosive bat speed, shows power potential, good round of BP squaring the ball up consistently, singled and doubled in game play, ran 7.25 60 yard dash, registered 92 mph tee exit velocity, projects as a power left-handed bat.
2/18/13 - 5-foot-10, 190-pound, left-handed hitting prospect, strong legs, good arm strength at 84 mph across the field, some stiffness in movement. At the plate, starts with a balanced athletic stance, front foot turned in and uses a toe tap, explosive use of lower half generates plus bat speed, showed the ability to consistently square the ball up, good power potential, registered an event best 91 mph tee exit velocity, potential left-handed power bat.
