The former Future Gamer and East Central Community College commit took the ball for Game 3 last Saturday against West Monroe and delivered a quality outing for the Bears. DeCuir Jr. worked four innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts on 68 pitches (42 strikes). It was a composed performance against a talented lineup and a strong way to cap the weekend series. A smooth, athletic mover with a short arm stroke, DeCuir Jr. releases from a lower three-quarter slot with a low release height that adds deception. He hides the ball well, allowing his 84-88 mph fastball to play up. The pitch flashed arm-side run with occasional ride through the zone, particularly when he worked to his glove-side. His best secondary offering on the day was a 72-74 mph slider that showed late bite and, at times, real swing-and-miss potential. Overall, it was an encouraging first start for the junior right-hander — one that provides plenty to build on.
