8/17/16

Ben has been to a bunch of events and this was his best showing. The pop time was 2.0 as he continues to improve his arm strength. The feet can still be cleaned up during the transfer but he is improving. Threw 73 mph down to second base during the workout. The receiving is solid and he blocks efficiently. Ran a 4.65 on his dig to first base. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 87 mph to it. Sets up with an even base and a high back elbow start. The swing path is long and flat to the ball as he seems to have his hands tied up at times. Would like to see him free up his hands a little to get more buggy whip to the bat. Swung the bat well in the game, as he squared up a couple base knocks.

7/26/16

Right-handed hitting catcher, stands 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. Has the physical tools to play first base as well. Threw 73 mph from behind the dish and had a pop time of 2.0. The transfer and arm path can improve as he matures. The glove and ability to receive is improving, softening the catch should improve with more innings back there. Ran a 4.77 down to first on his dig. At the plate, he is strong, tee exit velocity of 89 mph. Sets up with even base and high handed start. The path is long and strong through the ball. The bottom half of the swing is under control. With college at bats he should progress nicely.

6/28/16

Right-handed hitting catcher who can also play some hot corner if need be. Pop time of 2.1 as the footwork through the transfer have to improve. Threw 73 mph down to second during the workout. The receiving is solid, extra work with a pitching machine would help him work on securing the catch and taking his nose to the ball. Ran a 4.49 on his dig to first base. Offensively, the bat has life to it, tee exit velocity of 88 mph. The bat is long to contact as he casts out a little but he is strong enough to overcome vs average pitching. The hands and feet are even, as he shows enough to strength to initiate good bat speed, just needs to shorten the path a bit. Loves to play and got after it in the game.

6.30.15
Did it all at the event, threw 71 mph from behind the dish with a pop time of 2.30. The transfer and footwork needs cleaning. Threw 72 from 3rd, showing good ability to get off the ball, getting to the ball glove side very well in the game. Ran a 7.56 60-yard dash. Had a tee exit velocity of 85 mph, out of high elbow, high front foot lift approach. Showed good pull power in batting practice. Then he pitched, the right-hander has a high arm slot with coil and pull to his delivery. Touched 76 mph on the bump with a true fastball, and the slurve had some depth and tilt to it at 71 mph.
