Colby DeCouta: C/RHP, (2022) Taunton, MA. 6-foot, 190-pound athletic frame. Athletic at the plate, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 83 mph. Began in an open wide stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Had average bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. While catching, his best throw downs of the day reached a max velocity of 78 mph; has sure hands, athletic feet, and a quick exchange. Some flexibility and quiet setup. Used a short arm action and a ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the bag.

Body: 6-foot, 190-pound athletic frame.

Hit: (RHH) Started in an open wide stance with a smooth load, then used a controlled stride. Average bat speed. Good extension on his finish, upward swing. Gap to gap approach. 

Power: 83 mph exit velocity, average 70.53 mph. 62.39 mph bat speed average. 18.94 mph hand speed average.

Defense: (C) Sure hands, athletic footwork, quick exchange. Athletic. Quiet setup with some flexibility. 

Arm: 78 mph catcher velocity. Short arm action, ¾ slot, consistent accuracy.

6-foot,180-pound right-handed hitting catcher. He ran a 7.71 sixty at the event. The skill set behind the dish is a work in progress. He threw 73 mph from behind the dish with a pop time of 2.2. The receiving can continue to soften and he can work on securing the catch while receiving the baseball. The transfer can improve with the quickening of the feet and an off-season throwing program. The bat has an exit velocity of 90 mph. The setup is wide in base and the front foot steps into the swing. The path is long in path and his weight gets to the front foot very early in the process.

DeCouta is a 6-foot, 180 pound right-handed hitting catching prospect. He hits out of wide stance, with the hands set in a good position. The swing begins with a leg lift that shifts the weight to the back leg. The bat head takes a direct path to and through the hitting zone producing an exit velocity of 84.7 MPH during the batting practice. He also ran a 7.75 second sixty.

Defensively, DeCouta has a balanced set up behind the plate. The stance is square, with the glove set in the middle of the chest. As he transitions to throw, the feet move well and he gets his hips in line with second base. He showed a solid arm, with a pop time range of 2.2-2.4 seconds and a velocity of 67 MPH.

DeCouta has a chance with the bat. The hands are good, the stroke is fluid and he showed carry to the gaps.
