Obert is a 5-foot-10, 165 pound left-handed hitting two-way prospect. He hits out of an open stance, with the hands set just off the back shoulder. He uses a toe tap for timing and to get the swing started. The hands guide the bat-head through the hitting zone on a flat path, yielding an exit velocity of 84 MPH during his round.
Defensively, Obert was 80 MPH across the diamond. The feet are light as he works to break down for the ground ball. The hands are soft transitioning through the play and into the throwing motion. He creates a direct line with his target with the feet and uses a short, quick arm-swing to get the ball across the diamond.
On the mound, Obert works primarily out of the stretch, using simple steps to get into the balance position. He separates nicely at the top before heading down the mound in line with home plate. His arm slot is higher, giving his fastball some downward tilt at 77-79 MPH. The breaking ball has a sweepy break at a velocity of 66-68 MPH. He also showed a change-up with good action at 73-75 MPH.
