7/01/20

6-foot-5, 215-pound, large, physical frame. A well proportioned athlete, showing strength throughout. A right-handed hitting two-way player. Off the mound, simple, delivery, loads up on the back side, higher hand gather, backside is strong, lift is higher. The direction is inline, separation is on time, gets out front on release, shortens the gap to the plate. The arm action is short and clean on the backside, works from a high 3/4 slot. Pitches downhill and lived in the bottom part of the zone for his outing. The fastball reached 83 mph,  showing late action, handcuffing hitters. The breaking ball shows proper spin and shape. Thrown with velocity at 70 mph, look for it to be a an advanced pitch at the next level. At the plate, shows good power to pull side, setup is balanced, lower half is under control, swing is level to up. The exit velocity was clocked at 93 mph. Defensively, moves around the bag with ease at first, big target. The glove is soft, hands and feet work together on drop step double play starts. The arm was clocked at 73 mph. Look for him to be a guy off the mound at the next level.

Kornet has a strong, projectable 6-foot-5, 225 pound frame. The right-handed hitting first baseman had one of the more impressive exit velocities of 86 mph off the tee. He hits out of a narrow, square stance, with the hands relaxed off the back shoulder. The load is triggered with a leg lift. This gets the weight to sit on the back leg and the hands move to a strong launch position. The swing is violent and balanced though the hitting zone. The bat-path is flat and he stays on plane well through contact. The long limbs allow him to get leverage with his swing and he showed juice gap to gap.

Defensively, he was 78 mph on his throws from first base. The feet are athletic and light around the bag.  He gets into a good fielding position. The glove is relaxed out front and he shows soft hands, as he transitions through the ground ball. He creates a good line with the target and uses a quick arm and good follow-through to make consistent throws across the infield.

On the mound, his size and leverage are evident. There is quickness in the arm-swing and a good drive to home plate. The mechanics are simple and allow him to stay balanced throughout his violent delivery. The arm works out of a higher slot, giving his fastball heavy sink at 76-80 mph. The breaking ball is slider with tight spin at 69-72 mph. He also showed the feel for a  change-up at 75 mph.

Kornet is an interesting prospect. The size and strength are obvious plusses but the athleticism is what sets his skill-set apart. There is real arm talent on the mound, to go along with the defense and the swing. Get out and see him early.  He will be off the board very soon.
