6/28/16
Right-handed hitting catcher who has improved defensively since we last saw him. The receiving has softened up and his blocking has improved. Pop time of 1.97, as he throws out of a short path with good carry to his throws. Threw 76 mph down to second base, so he has plenty of arm strength. The bat and setup needs some cleaning up. Crouching type setup with low hands, and he casts them out to maneuver the barrel in an uphill manner. Flattening the barrel in a more direct manner will give him a chance to hit. Good athlete, as he ran a 4.49 down the line and could kick to the outfield and hold his own.
2/20/16
5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic, physical body frame. A right-handed hitting catcher, at the plate hits with a wider and slightly open stance. Hands are set off the shoulders, real quiet approach to the ball. The lower half is under control, stride is straight, but he could get hands back bit more in load. Showed a gap to gap approach, stayed in the middle. The tee exit velocity was 82 mph. Defensively, behind the plate does a fine job receiving, setup is balanced, hands are soft, strong and gets behind the ball. The footwork is short, crisp, right foot replaces left foot. Transfer from glove to throwing arm is quick. Clocked at 74 mph, arm action is clean, pop times were 1.96, 2.00, 2.03, 2.22, throws were on the bag. Ran a 4.31 from home to first.
9/27/15
Right-handed hitting catcher who showed good moxy and endurance behind the plate. Threw 74 from behind the dish and had a pop time of 2.03. The receiving is improving, and the transfer has gotten cleaner and quicker. Strength in the body and swing is needed. At the plate, had a tee exit velocity of 79. The swing is long and needs to cover the strike zone better. The setup starts with a low, wide base. The path is a bit uphill and he has a slight bounce in his legs as the ball approaches him. Settling down his feet and taking his hands directly to the ball will help his offensive game. Ran a 4.87 down the line.
2/16/15
Right-handed hitting catcher that had a pop time of 2.15 and threw 68 from behind the dish. The receiving is good and his set up is correct. The slot is a tick high but the ball comes out fine. The swing is a bit long and around but with physical strength that can become shorter. Finishing through the ball will help him as well. Ran a 7.84 as well. At 5-foot-9, 140-pounds, growth will be important.
