Keister may only be 5-foot-8, 160-pounds, but he plays much bigger than that. The talented two-way prospect is sure-handed at shortstop where he shows confident hands with adequate range. His strong arm allows him to make throws from the hole and his solid athleticism allows him to make throws from all angles as well as on the run. At the plate he has a short path to the ball, and sprays line drives to all fields with gap power in his future as he adds strength. Even more impressive from Keister is the polish that he shows on the mound. Utilizing a compact, crisp delivery, he simply repeats a high ¾ slot with a fast moving arm that shows quickness out front after a medium-sized arm stroke. He sat 82-85 as I watched him in Ft. Myers, and showed advanced command of his fastball for his age. He countered the pitch with a tight, 11/5 curveball with depth at 70 mph that he showed feel for in and out of the zone. Looking like an infielder on the mound with the way his body works athletically, Keister has a chance to continue on an upward trend, and given his polished delivery and advanced feel for disrupting timing, I expect him to be closely followed by many recruiters in the future.
