Player Spotlight

Andrew Heffernan: RHP/SS, (2023) South Portland, ME. 6-foot, 182-pound lean athletic frame. Projectable and athletic in the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 88 mph. (65.9 mph bat speed average). (21.2 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced, athletic stance with a tight load, then used a toe tap small stride. Bat speed is developing, displays an uphill loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap aggressive approach. Projectable athletic while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 77 mph; had developing soft hands, athletic developing footwork, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were developing. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a loose arm action and a high ¾ slot. Above average projectable on the mound, showing developing quick arm speed he used a high ¾ arm angle and a loose consistent arm action. Feel up-tempo type pitcher who shows easy effort. Displays in line shoulders and a consistent balance point. Lands closed with an athletic finish. Slider (70-73 mph). Produced a fastball that came in at 80-81 mph; had command arm side in the zone and slight running action. (Max spin 2064; Avg 2026). Showed slurvey action and glove side in the zone command on his curveball (71-73). (Max spin 2307; Avg 2244). Has arm side control and gradual fading action on his changeup (73-74).

8/18/20

5-foot-7, 130-pound right-handed hitting infielder and pitcher. He ran a 8.2 sixty at the event. Positionally, the approach to the ball is appropriate as the feet remain active and the glove works softly out in front of him. He showed a short arm path, throwing 71 mph across the diamond at the workout. The bat has an exit velocity of 70 mph as the frame needs to add strength as he matures in age. The setup is wide in base and he uses a small pick up and put down of the front foot as the ball approaches the hitting zone. The path is simple and he displayed a 1-handed finish after contact with the baseball. On the mound, the fastball sat 72-74 mph. The spin pitch was 60-62 mph and the changeup is a developing pitch for him. The delivery is online with the feet and the slot is above 3/4 in height. The tempo is solid, showed solid direction and pounded the strike zone with his pitches. The arm works free and clean. Good looking young arm.
