9/15/19

The 5-foot9, 170 pound right-handed hitting catcher had a tee exit velocity of 82 mph. The set up starts out balanced and slightly open. The hands are in a comfortable position off the back shoulder. As he begins the swing, the weight gets to the back side and the hands move slightly. There is some lift in the swing and he stays through contact. He also ran an 8.3 sixty.
Behind the plate, he was 69 mph down to second base and was 2.0-2.2 with the pop time.  The initial set up is closed and the weight is balanced over his feet.  The glove gives a nice target and relaxes as the pitch is thrown.  During the games, he showed the ability to move laterally and receive.  Throwing to second base, the feet are pre-set in the closed position. As he catches the ball, the transfer is clean and the shoulder stay in line with the target.  His weight stays over his hips and he finishes through toward second base.  The arm action is out of a higher slot and direct to the target.

9/16/18

5-foot-9, 170-pound right-handed hitting catcher. Ran a 8.2 sixty at the event. The pop time is 2.3 as the feet can continue to improve and the arm could benefit from an off-season throwing program. Make sure the front foot gets close down during your transfer. Threw 65 mph down to second base at the workout. The receiving is trending the right way, softening the glove and securing the catch should continue to be practiced daily. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 78 mph. The setup is wide in base, pick up and put down of the front foot as the ball approaches. The path is flat to the ball and he uses a 1-handed finish after contact.

7/18/17

5-foot-8, 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher and third baseman. Defensively, threw 62 mph from behind the dish. The transfer and footwork need to improve as the body physically matures. Pop time of 2.25 as the arm works, just needs additional arm strength as he develops. Showed the ability to receive and handle the glove. Working on securing the catch needs to continue to develop. Ran a 8.6 sixty at the event.  The glove at third base is average, needs to improve the footwork at the hot corner to make fielding and throwing simpler. Threw 60 mph across the diamond. The bat has a tee exit velocity of 73 mph. Sets up with his feet wide and his hands in a relaxed start. The bottom half of the swing stays under control. The path is simple to the ball, bat speed needs to improve with physical maturation.
