New Jersey Games (July 23-25, 2016)
Montalvo has a slender, athletic build at 5-foot-11 155-pounds. Throws from 3/4 slot. Gets heavy armside run and sink. Establishes armside half of home plate well. Topped at 84, sat 82-84 for most of his outing. Breaking ball is more of a slider at 74-75 mph with 11/5 break. Short, stabby arm action, but action is quick. Changeup can be a good pitch for him, especially with how much run/sink he gets naturally on FB. Frame still is still wiry, room to put on weight/muscle.

10/18/15 --
Montalvo did a fine job against PBR New England. He pitched two innings, gave up four hits, and one earned run; all while inducing weak contact. His tempo and rhythm were much the same as we've seen in the past. His lead leg, however, seemed to open up early in this outing, but he did a better job of maintaining direction. His quick arm and repeatable low 3/4 arm slot make hitters very uneasy. The velocity was much better sustained in this outing as he was 80-83 miles-per-hour. His slider was 71-72 and his changeup was 74-75. His changeup could be a potentially plus pitch as he learns to not give it away with deliberately increased tempo. He has an advanced feel for the bottom third of the zone with all three pitches and should be sought after this spring and summer with steady progression.
9/20/15 --  Montalvo is 5-foot-11, 155 pounds and has athletic actions on the mound. He has an uptempo delivery and gets going quickly down the slope. He pitches with quick, elbow climb arm action from a low 3/4 arm slot. His fastball has deceptive arm side run as the ball jump out of his hand. He adds and minuses on his fastball depending on count and his velocity ranged between 77 and 84 miles-per-hour. His slider is sweeping at 70-72 MPH and his changeup mimics his fastball and ranges in velocity (69-74 MPH).
