Opat is strong and athletic standing at 6-foot, 175-pounds. Pitched from the stretch, setting up closed on the first base side with his back leg preset. Starts with the hands down low, move in sync with his lower half. Hip/shoulder separation. Creates deception from a rotational delivery. Arm is long and clean. FB sat in 79-81 MPH range. Showed two breakers, a SL and CB. CB was more up-down at 70-72 MPH, while the SL had horizontal action at 73-74 MPH. CH was 76-77 MPH.
Opat has a longer and more athletic build standing at 6-foot, 170-pounds. On the mound, pitched exclusively from the stretch. Sets up on the first base side of the rubber, with feet closed and back leg slightly preset. Hands start away from his body at midsection height and stay locked in place until he reaches his balance point. Both halves work in sync. Uphill shoulder tilt with rotational actions in the upper half. Long and loose arm, higher slot. FB sat in the 78-79 MPH range. CB showed 11/5 shape and was in the zone at 65-66 MPH. Mixed in a straight CH at 70-71 MPH.
