9/19/15 – Reilly has been a player that I’ve been very intrigued with since I saw him two years ago. He has greatly improved since that fall day and has shown very well each time I see him. He has greatly improved his foot speed and proved it by running a 7.32 in the 60-yard dash, impressive for a first baseman of his size. He continues to show good strength in his swing, although I get worried some about the low hand start against higher velocity. He has a dynamic lower half and a strong base. He creates very good lift when he connects but he does have a tendency to top-spin line drives that he should be hitting deep into the gap. He’s greatly improved his foot work around the bag and moves very well over at first. He has a solid arm and is a solid 1B prospect.
7/16/15 – Reilly is a well-built, athletic 6-foot-3 first baseman. Reilly ran a 7.60 in the 60-yard dash. He moved well around the bag for a solid-framed first baseman. He picked balls well and threw well to third base, displaying 81 MPH arm strength. He looked fluid on ground balls and he needs to learn to turn glove side on double play balls. Offensively, Reilly displayed pop in his exit velocity, hitting off the tee at 90 miles-per-hour. In the batter’s box, he hits from a slightly open stance with low hands and a big back load of his weight. He has some clear bat speed and has a pull-side approach which allows him to drive the ball middle-in. He shows the ability to put the ball in the air with back spin and flight. He has slight uphill tilt to his swing which plays into his power potential when he barrels the baseball. He finished high and balanced and repeats his swing well.
