2019 Preseason All state showcase

Thompson has a wiry and athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 180-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.44 seconds and recorded an exit velo of 86 MPH. At the plate, the left handed hitter starts in a wide and balanced stance, with his feet slightly open. Uses a toe tap in his stride. Creates pre-swing rhythm. Hands extend directly back in his load. Extends his hands through the zone and showed off some gap to gap power potential. Took defensive reps in the outfield and recorded a velo of 81 MPH. Used short, choppy steps as he approached the ball. Makes his transfer close to his body at midsection height. On the mound, Thompson starts on the right side of the rubber facing the first base line. Engages his backside early. Long, clean arm action. High 3/4 arm slot. Engages his backside early. Lands slightly closed. Consistent rhythm and tempo. Fastball was consistently at the bottom of the zone at 78-79 MPH, touching 80 MPH. Curveball showed big 1/7 shape with a tendency to back up on him at times at 69-71 MPH.
