7/16/15 – DeVenney possesses a very athletic 5-foot-11 build with room to fill out as he physically matures. Defensively, the 2016 catcher displayed some excellent skills, producing the event’s top pop time and receiving skills. Throwing 76 miles-per-hour down to second base, DeVenney’s best pop time in the showcase portion was 1.88. His in-game pop time was 1.94 home-to-second as well. He received and block well and moved in and out of his set up very fluidly.  Offensively, DeVenney ran an impressive 7.18. He hit from an open stance and a timing load with a smooth rock to his back leg. He had strength and bat speed in his swing and remained relatively compact. DeVenney accomplished nice extension and finished high. He was able to show some pop throughout the day and is a very solid prospect who should make noise in the initial state rankings.
