2017 New Jersey State Games (July 26-27, 2017)
Gonnelli has a broad shouldered build at 6-foot-1 215-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 8.05-seconds and recorded an exit velocity of 87 MPH. Offensively – starts in a slightly opened stance with hands just above back shoulder and bat rested on back shoulder as well. As pitch comes in, uses a foot stride to start swing, hands load down and back. Creates some extension in arms and hands to generate some power. Line drive hitter with gap to gap potential. Lift in finish and balanced throughout. Defensively – took reps at first base, throws topped at 77 MPH across the diamond. Plays through throws going across the infield, glove is smooth with heavy feet. Pitching – fastball topped at 79 MPH and sat mostly 75-79 MPH throughout his outing. Flashed a curveball with 1/7 bite at 66-67 and a changeup with some armside fade at 67-68 as well. Worked two of the most efficient innings of the whole event. Created a consistent tempo throughout delivery and finish. Tall, athletic balance point, level shoulders going down the mound. Firm front landing leg, landing foot lands square and in line. High-3/4 slot with clean and loose arm action.
