2019 Preseason All state showcase
Ruiz has a lean and athletic frame at 5-foot-8, 155-pounds. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.21 seconds and recorded an exit velo of 85 MPH. Sets up at the plate in a wide and athletic stance with his knees bent and slightly inverted. Hands start high and create some pre-pitch rhythm. Moves his hands down and back during his load with a bat wrap. Small leg kick. Hands stay inside the ball, showed off an opposite field approach throughout his round. Defensively, took reps from the outfield and recorded a velo of 84 MPH. Stayed slow and under control in his approach to the ball, but exploded through it to create momentum towards his target. On the mound, starts from a modified stretch position. High leg kick, gets into his backside on time. Long, loose arm action. Keeps a high frontside. Stride direction stays in line. FB showed late life at the bottom of the zone at 80-81 MPH. Changeup had late fade when at the bottom of the zone. Curveball displayed sharp 11/5 shape, thrown both for strikes and swing and miss pitches.

Ruiz has an athletic build at 5-foot-8 143-pounds. Fastball sat 80-83 and topped at 83 MPH during his outing. Curveball showed two-plane break at 64-67 MPH with 11/5 bite. Also flashed a changeup at 71-74 with armside run and sink. Drop and drive type pitcher as he gathers in his balance point, able to stride out to get extension over landing leg. Shorter arm action from an over-the-top slot. Controls glove side on release and landing. Front foot lands slightly closed, but is able to control body to land square.
