Kaschak has strong, broad shouldered build at 6-foot-3 200-pounds. One of the top performers from the skills portion of the event. Plus power for age, launched several over the outfield fence during batting practice. Ran the 60 yard dash in 7.58 seconds, recorded an exit velocity of 86 MPH. At the plate, starts in a neutral stance with feet slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Hands just above back shoulder. Creates some rhythm in hands prepitch. Quiet, but explosive movements through the zone to the baseball. Small hand load, uses a small leg lift and stride to start swing. Creates extension and torque in hips to drive the ball into the gaps. One of the top ranked first basemen the 2019 class. Defensively, took reps at third base. Shows sound footwork and clean exchange. Plays through throws to first base with momentum and some armside fade. Throws topped at 75 MPH across the diamond.
Winter Trials South (January 30, 2016)
Luke stands in with an ideal corner infield frame at 6-foot-1 210 pounds as only a freshman. He ran a 4.41 home-to-1B. Offensively- Luke starts with his weight pre-loaded with a slight rock back of his hands for a load. Bat angle creeps down to 15-20 degrees as he uses a down and back toe tap for timing. Front side gets down in time and stays behind the ball into contact. Drives back foot and hips through aggressively. Above average bat speed for his age but length in the swing caused for some contact down the barrel. Plenty of lift within his swing and love the aggression. Some quieter timing mechanisms and a more consistent swing path will make him a big time threat at the plate. Raw tools are there now, as evidenced by a 93 MPH exit velocity. Defensively- Was impressive from both corners. Not often will one come across a true 3B package like Luke, He has the frame, the mobility, the arm and the offensive package. Ranged well to his gloves side with SS actions. Arm strength peaked at 82 MPH across the diamond. At 1B he showed fluid actions, moved his body properly and was good around the bag with his footwork. 71 MPH on his throws to 3B. Presents a big target.
