2/27/22

vs. Binghamton: Six-foot-2, 185-pound athletic frame. Dean had a quick outing, lasting only nine pitches and striking out two in the process. Working from the full the entire time, Dean uses a higher leg lift, shoulders closed, and strides landing slightly closed. It is a longer arm action that gets into a high three-quarter slot. The stride and higher slot bring some crossfire action to the 93-95 mph fastball with gradual boreing action in on right handers. Dean was not afraid to pitch in to all three of the right handers he faced. He showed only one breaking ball in his nine pitch appearance that was 76 mph with 2550 spin. It had hard 1/7 downer bite that tunneled well off of the fastball. He has a third pitch in the changeup that he did not show in the short work, but did show it in warmups.

2017 New Jersey State Games (July 26-27, 2017)
Dean has a wiry, athletic frame at 6-feet 150-pounds with room to fill out and add muscle. One of the top performers on the mound from the entire event. Fastball topped at 85 MPH and sat mostly 83-85 in his first inning of work. Velocity dropped slightly in his second inning. Curveball with 71-73 with tight 1/7 break and fastball hand speed. Flashed a changeup at 63-64 MPH with armside run and sink. Commanded all three pitches for strikes. Able to throw offspeed in any count. Easy, methodical start to delivery into a tall, athletic balance point. Level shoulders going down the mound. Firm, strong landing leg. Plant foot lands square to homeplate, creates extension over front lead leg. Ball jumps on hitters with late life and complements it well with offspeed. Several swings and misses on fastballs especially up in the strikezone that he was able to follow up with a sharp, downer breaking ball to finish off the hitter. Lands slightly closed on finish, hides ball well in delivery. Sneaky quick, tough to pick up.

10/6/16
Dean has a lanky, athletic build - throws from a high-¾ slot. Sat 81-83 touching 84 mph with FB, Breaking ball had 1/7 shape at 70-71 mph. Throws across body, but gets excellent extension on release. Arm action is long and loose. Offspeed for strikes in any count.

4/30/16 -

Dean is certainly a prospect to watch for the next four years. Only 14 years old, has room to grow and mature. Starts windup with a step to his right and a big leg swing for a leg lift just before he goes down the mound. Throws from a high ¾ angle.  He was sitting 80-81 and touching 82 from the left side as only a freshman. Showed very good pitchability, as he was able to throw three pitches for strikes, and is able to throw offspeed pitches in hitter’s counts. Possessed a good curveball, 1-7 movement at 67-68 MPH, and a very good changeup that he got many swings and misses on at 63-65. He competed very well against a good Barnegat team, going 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 5 K and did not walk a batter.
