Winter Trials South (January 30, 2016)
Edwin is an athletic 6-foot-0 180 pound catcher who ran a 4.22 home-to-1B. Offensively- Edwin starts in a balanced and slightly closed off stance with his hands just off his back shoulder with a his bat angle picking up to a 30 degree angle. Coils hands slightly with an up-down leg kick. Stays behind the ball well and is aggressive with back side rotation. Despite being closed off he does a nice job of staying inside contact. Finish is out off the body, carrying into foul territory (3B side). Exit velocity peaked at 83 MPH. Line drive results from the center of the field to his pull side. Defensively- Edwin is a high end athlete behind the dish. Starts in a low to ground, compact setup, presenting a bulls eye target. Absorbs ball back to the body but does bury his eyes. Body moves a bit early on throwdowns but is quick with feet and exchange. Pop times ranged from 1.79-1.91 from a tight to the plate setup. Best time was one hop from the knees on turf. Positional velocity sat at 75 MPH. Creates good angles in the dirt and quick to his feet for retrieval.
