7/16/15 – Van Meter is a wiry strong 6-foot catcher from one of the premier programs in New Jersey in Gloucester Catholic. The right-handed hitter hits with an open stance and utilizes a leg kick and quick trigger of the bat to begin his swing mechanics. He has some bat speed potential and is very short and direct at times; seen most on pitches middle-in. He accomplishes solid extension after contact and finishes balanced and high. Defensively, Van Meter’s top pop time was 2.06. He displayed proper transfer and foot work but could quicken up foot speed, also seen in his 7.99 60-yard dash time. There are fundamentals to be worked with and I’d like to see the progression.
