Sonny Fontana: RHP/OF, (2021) Mayfield, OH. 5-foot-10, 155-pound lean frame. Started in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a toe tap. Had efficient bat speed, flat swing plane and high finish. Solid from the outfield, he showed the ability to throw at velocities up to 80 mph; had a natural exchange, consistent footwork, and sure hands. Had a high ¾ slot and a short arm action. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.36. Solid on the mound, had consistent arm speed with a high ¾ arm angle. Slow-tempo type pitcher who shows easy effort. Curveball (64-67 mph), changeup (73-77 mph).Threw his fastball 77-79 mph.
2/15/20 Position Player
Hit: Smoother mover in the box. Uses a double tap timing trigger during slight back load to hands. Backside launch, followed by an uphill path to contact. Generated most true ball flight when working through a middle back approach.
Power: 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Balanced offering of strength and speed to hands. Line drive pop.
Offensive Projection: TBD. Much more physical maturation still left in play.
Field: Easy tempo in the outfield. Controlled tempo throughout. Ball skills are playable.
Throw: 82 mph arm strength to home plate. Arm is top tool out there.
Defensive Projection: Corner outfield.
2/15/20 Pitching
Delivery Notes: Classic drop and drive delivery. Will vary tempo out there. ¾ slot creates deception. Above average arm speed.
Fastball: 79-81 mph. Occasional arm side action.
Curveball: 63-67 mph. Slurvish type breaker with big action at times. Looks to have feel for it.
Changeup: 72 mph. Didn’t show a ton but looked playable when he did.
