Featured back in early April as one of our Rising Hitters, Clayton is a sophomore draft eligible by age. He combines explosive athleticism with a plus run tool. His swing path is still in the flat category, but he is elevating the ball more often this season. This has resulted in a jump to his power production from four home runs with a .107 ISO as a freshman to ten home runs and a .216 ISO to date this year. The Huskies’ shortstop seemed to be undervalued by the industry heading into the tourney, but scouts in attendance took notice of the true caliber of player that is Clayton. He is no longer a Northwest sleeper. Currently batting .320 with 20 doubles, the right handed batter possesses impressive hand and bat speed. He also moves well at shortstop with quality glove-to-hand abilities and a strong arm with a quick release. Clayton exhibits all the abilities needed to stick at shortstop, but perhaps even more comforting to scouts, his power potential and athleticism should give him a chance to play any infield position on the dirt. Top three round prospect.

The sophomore eligible Clayton combines explosive athleticism with a plus run tool and reminds me of former Husky star AJ Graffanino. As a high school senior the 6-foot-1, 180-pound righthanded hitter was Prep Baseball Report’s No. 2 ranked player in the state of Oregon that was much buoyed by quietly putting together one of the stronger performances at the 2021 Super 60. The twitch and bounce that his all-around game presents also carries over to the swing. Currently batting .315 with nine doubles and seven home runs, Clayton possesses impressive hand and bat speed. He also moves well at shortstop with quality glove-to-hand abilities and a strong arm with a quick release. 6-foot, 185-pound frame, his twitch stood out in all aspects. The 6.69 60-yard dash time was graceful on a misty morning with a slow track, and there is a good chance it trends even lower in the future. He followed that up with some loud rounds of batting practice with some raw power to the pull side (100 mph exit velocity). Gaining momentum with a bigger leg kick that pushes the hands deeper, down and back into a power position, Clayton demonstrated an ability to get on-plane early with impressive early connection and rotational acceleration. He has quick hands that drive the barrel strong through the zone on a flat path, and there was noticeable lag seen, especially in game. On the infield, the hands played more average on this day dealing with a tougher surface, but he exhibited an ability to make athletic plays with a quick release, and the upside was paramount. His smooth athleticism is sure to catch the attention of MLB scouts moving forward, and he is likely to be one of the more heavily scouted prospects in the state over the next year

After a huge summer, Clayton ascended into the national rankings for the first time and established himself as a premier talent in the PNW. The overall athleticism shows up in-game and his physical tools have steadily progressed over the last few years. Offensively he shows loose, easy hands with barrel control and adjustability in the box. Defensively he moves easily at SS with clean actions and is versatile enough to move around the diamond if needed.

Proportionally built with some present strength at 6-foot, 185 pounds. The actions of the game come very naturally to Clayton. He consistently shows the ability to be a sure-handed defender with the versatility to handle multiple INF positions. Offensively his clean, fluid swing has always produced consistent line-drive contact and he's started to show more power and bat speed as he gets older
