Katayama-Stall emerged as a player to follow last summer, and looked to have gotten stronger at a preseason Pacific Northwest event in February, and it all appears to be coming together as the spring season finishes in Oregon. The 6-foot, 160-pound multi-sport (hoops season is just starting up in Oregon), two-way player made an impact on one of the state’s top teams and programs (Westview), and appears to be the next big bat coming out of a school that has produced many big ones including current Arizona Diamondbacks catcher, Carson Kelly. Athletic with a high baseball IQ/instincts, Katayama-Stall utilizes more polished actions on the infield, and may have a chance to stick at shortstop long term thanks to confident hands, but the power projection of the bat will likely force him into a lineup at any spot on the dirt. The left-handed hitter tracks confidently with the hands triggering into a deeper load down and back thanks to a large leg kick that helps provide some power. Working slightly uphill with aggressive use of the hips, Katayama-Stall should continue adding power as the frame fills out. Overall, he is a high-level follow who should have a chance to really hit as he gains more in-game at-bats.
